The SLA program is pleased to host brownbag discussions as part of its 2014-15 series featuring members of the UW-Madison community involved with the practice of language teaching and learning. Workshop for SLA Students: Maximizing Library Resources for SLA Research

1:30-2:30 pm, Friday, September 19, 231 Memorial Library
Susan Barribeau, English Language Humanities Librarian, Memorial Library, with Dianna Murphy and Junko Mori, SLA PhD Program

This session will cover strategies for finding and using relevant databases for research in second language acquisition, including the LLBA but also going beyond that using Education Research Complete, PsycInfo, MLA Bibliography, SocINDEX, ProQuest Dissertations, etc. The session will demonstrate use of controlled subject headings and thesauri to make searching more efficient; it will also discuss how to interpret results, find full text articles and determine if the UW Libraries
has a journal available online. Time permitting, we will also demo how to set up TOCs and research alerts, and how to save or email citations and results. All are welcome!
